We here at the Betta Barracks don't usually recommend it.  But If 
     you make sure that the fish are fellow tropicals, and of about the same
     size as the betta, and they are not to agressive, and you watch them
     to see if they get along, you may put them with other fish, but be 
     sure to have a home for the betta if things do not go well.
